On Monday, 3 June 2019, we were thrilled to welcome the Mayor of Bolton, Hilary Fairclough, and her musical husband, Donald (of the Phoenix Knights of Harmony barbershop choir) to our instrument presentation at The Bakewells.
After securing generous funding from the Duchy of Lancaster, we were privileged to make an occasion of the event, and even had a new volunteer join us in sharing the fantastic instrument selection. The Duchy was also able to sponsor instruments for an additional three homes, encouraging regular music-making.
Both the mayor and mayor consort joined in at Bakewells without hesitation, stopping to chat to various residents and sing alongside them. The highlight was undoubtedly a rousing version of Is This The Way To Amarillo! Accompanying us to the dementia unit afterwards, the residents had a lovely time singing and sharing moments together as they chatted about their lives.
